Walks Near Callander
43 hills within 30km — 12 Munros, 11 Corbetts, 16 Grahams, 4 Donalds. Sorted by straight-line distance.
Callander is the eastern door into the Trossachs, and its walking scales neatly: crags directly above the main street, a waterfall gorge twenty minutes from the car park, and Ben Ledi — the Corbett that dominates every view in town — a short drive up the Pass of Leny. Push a little further into the national park and Ben Venue and Ben A'an deliver the classic Trossachs rock-and-loch scenery that filled Victorian guidebooks.
No railway — Callander is served by bus from Stirling (roughly 45 minutes), with connections from Glasgow and Edinburgh via Stirling station. Ben Ledi's car park at Corriechrombie is 4km north of town off the A84. The Trossachs trailheads for Ben A'an and Ben Venue are 15–20 minutes west by car along the A821. The Crags and Bracklinn Falls need no transport at all.
Top walks near Callander
Ben Ledi
The 879m Corbett that owns Callander's skyline. The standard route from Corriechrombie in the Pass of Leny climbs steadily on a good path to a ridge finish with Stirling Castle visible on a clear day. About 10km return.
4km from Callander
Ben Venue
The rough, knobbly Graham above Loch Katrine — 727m of genuinely rugged ground that walks bigger than its height. Start from Loch Achray; expect bog, rock and one of the finest loch views in the southern Highlands.
16km from Callander
Callander Crags and Bracklinn Falls
The town circuit — up through woods to the Crags viewpoint (343m) above the rooftops, then across to the Bracklinn Falls bridge over the Keltie gorge. A half-day that needs no car and gives more drama than its modest height suggests.

When to go
The Trossachs are at their best in May–June and October — autumn turns the oak and birch around Loch Katrine and Loch Achray into the most photographed woodland colour in Scotland, and weekends then are busy. Ben Ledi's upper ridge catches real winter conditions despite its modest height; the north-east facing slopes hold ice late. Ben A'an's popularity means its small car park fills by mid-morning year-round — arrive early or walk in the evening. Midges around the Trossachs lochs are serious in July–August; the Crags and Bracklinn, being higher and breezier, suffer less.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I climb Ben Ledi without a car?
- The Corriechrombie car park start is 4km from Callander along the A84 and the Rob Roy Way — walkable in about 45 minutes, making a full from-town round of roughly 18km. Some walkers cycle to the start instead; the road section is short but fast-moving.
- Is Ben A'an suitable for beginners?
- Yes, with honest expectations: it is short (about 4km return) but steep almost throughout, climbing 340m to a rocky little summit. The path is heavily rebuilt and easy to follow. The reward-to-effort ratio — Loch Katrine spread below a miniature mountain top — is the best in the Trossachs.
- What can I walk directly from Callander town centre?
- The Callander Crags circuit starts from the lane behind the main street and climbs to a 343m viewpoint; combining it with Bracklinn Falls makes a 7–8km round. The old railway path along the River Teith towards the Pass of Leny is flat, pram-friendly and pretty.
- How far is Callander from the nearest Munro?
- Ben Vorlich above Loch Earn is about 20km north — a 25-minute drive to the Ardvorlich estate start. Stuc a' Chroin, its rougher neighbour, is usually combined with it by experienced walkers. Ben Lomond and the Crianlarich Munros are within an hour's drive west and north.
