Privacy Policy

OutdoorSCOT (“we”, “our”) respects your privacy and complies with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What we collect
- Your email address, if you give it to us. There are three places you can: the newsletter form, a free guide, and the “email me this result” box under one of the planning tools. All three add you to the same list. We use it to send the OutdoorSCOT newsletter and nothing else.
- Two email processors, doing different jobs. MailerLite holds the mailing list and sends the newsletter. Resend sends the one-off emails you ask for — a guide you requested, or a tool result you asked us to send you. We do not keep a copy of your address ourselves, and we never pass it to anyone else.
- The hill tracker stays in your browser. There is no account and no login. Your ticked hills are saved in your own browser’s local storage and never reach us; the tool’s export button is how you move them to another device.
- Analytics. Vercel Analytics and our own first-party event log (stored in Supabase) record anonymised information about a visit — the page viewed, country, device type, which tool was used. No name, no email address, no IP address is stored against it. Google Analytics runs only if you accept it in the cookie banner.
- Cookies. Functional cookies for your consent choice and your analytics opt-out, plus the advertising cookies described below.
How we use your data
- To deliver the newsletter you signed up for.
- To send you a guide or a tool result you asked for.
- To improve the site based on aggregate analytics.
We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.
Advertising
Some pages carry display advertising through Journey by Mediavine. Mediavine and its advertising partners set cookies and similar identifiers to choose which adverts to show, measure whether they were seen and limit repetition. You can change your choices through the advertising consent dialogue the first time you visit. The gear guides, the blog and the kit lists carry no advertising at all.
Affiliate links
OutdoorSCOT contains affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the retailer may share commission with us. The retailer's own cookies and tracking apply once you leave OutdoorSCOT — we have no control over those.
Accommodation links are powered by Stay22: a script on our pages detects links to booking sites and adds our affiliate identifier, so the booking site can share a commission with us if you book. The Stay22 script does not set cookies on OutdoorSCOT; it stores a device identifier in your browser's local storage to make that attribution work. Any booking cookie is set by the booking site itself after you click through. We receive aggregate click and conversion counts from Stay22 — never your booking details. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have it corrected if inaccurate
- Have it deleted (right to erasure)
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the ICO

Data retention
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Hill tracker data is kept for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your profile.
