Beinn Resipol

Beinn Resipol is the isolated 845m Corbett rising above Loch Sunart in Ardnamurchan — long admired as one of the great single-hill viewpoints in Britain. The mountain stands alone on the peninsula with no rivals within several kilometres, and on a clear day the summit gives a 360° panorama across to Rum, Eigg, Muck, Mull, Lismore, Skye, and the long line of the Glenfinnan Munros. The walk in is across rough Argyll moorland from the south shore of Loch Sunart, and the day has a real sense of pilgrimage about it — few hills feel so deserving of the effort to reach them.

Park at the Resipole holiday park lay-by on the A861 (NM729640). A waymarked path heads north from the road through farmland and into the open moor of Coire an Toic, climbing past Lochan Bac an Lochain. Above the upper lochan the path becomes vague and the route weaves between grass and slabs onto the broad south-east shoulder, then continues steadily up to the small rocky summit cairn. Descent retraces the line. Allow 6–7 hours.

Terrain

Lower path is reasonable but boggy in places, especially after rain. Above the lochan the going is rougher — grass, peat hag and small rocky outcrops with no real path. The summit area is a series of small rocky tops; the highest is marked by a cairn but in cloud the others can be mistaken for it.

In winter

Maritime west-coast winter conditions — snow rarely persistent, but Atlantic systems deliver soaking rain, low cloud and ferocious wind. The featureless upper plateau in poor visibility is the real challenge; cornices form modestly on the north side. Best left until firm spring conditions for most parties unless winter mountain navigation skills are sharp.

This hill is in the Glen Coe SAIS forecast area. Check SAIS forecasts in winter (December–April).
