Argyll Midges in November — Risk, Peak Times, Kit
Effectively no midges. Plan freely. Mainland west-coast pressure with the same Atlantic humidity as Lochaber. Kintyre, Cowal, Knapdale and the islands (Mull, Jura, Islay, Arran) all carry the burden — sheltered woodland and lochside camps are the worst.

Tactical notes
November in Argyll is back to full off-season for midges and full Atlantic storm weather. The sea-loch heads — Loch Etive, Loch Awe, Loch Fyne, Loch Long, Loch Goil — collect heavy November rainfall and run as some of the wettest places in Scotland. The midge population is back to winter dormancy and won't reappear until at least May.
The Argyll Forest Park enters first proper winter conditions typically late in the month. [Ben Donich](/hillwalking/corbetts/ben-donich), [The Brack](/hillwalking/corbetts/the-brack) and [Cnoc Coinnich](/hillwalking/corbetts/cnoc-coinnich) become more serious propositions as the rock greases and snow patches appear in the high gullies. [Beinn Bhuidhe](/hillwalking/corbetts/beinn-bhuidhe) above Glen Fyne and [Beinn Bheula](/hillwalking/corbetts/beinn-bheula) on Cowal are both long approaches that suffer from short daylight in November.
The Arran cluster ([Goat Fell](/hillwalking/corbetts/goat-fell), [Cir Mhor](/hillwalking/corbetts/cir-mhor), [Caisteal Abhail](/hillwalking/corbetts/caisteal-abhail)) is at its most atmospheric in November storm light. The granite glistens in rain, the Glen Rosa approach is dramatic, the ridge crossings need care in greasy conditions. Jura with [Beinn an Oir](/hillwalking/corbetts/beinn-an-oir) and the [Glenbatrick bothy](/bothies/glenbatrick) walk-in is at its most committed — a wrong-weather window means a long ferry-disrupted return. Mull's [Dun da Ghaoithe](/hillwalking/corbetts/dun-da-ghaoithe) and Ben More with [Tomsleibhe bothy](/bothies/tomsleibhe) work similarly. Inland bothies [Inbhir Fhaolain](/bothies/inbhir-fhaolain) and [Caolasnacon](/bothies/caolasnacon) are open, very quiet, and entirely free of insects. Head net unnecessary; storm shell and weather-window discipline come instead.
