Our take
Glenbeg is where you realise Loch Hourn is the equal of anything in Norway. The mountains drop straight to the water, the road is 8km behind you, and the silence is total. Basic but atmospheric — carry your own comfort.
Getting there
From the end of the single-track road at Kinloch Hourn, follow the coastal path west along the south shore of Loch Hourn. Rough, undulating terrain with some exposure. Allow 2.5 hours.

What to expect inside
Small MBA bothy in fair condition with a fireplace and space for 4. The setting directly above Loch Hourn compensates for the basic interior.
Nearby hills & attractions
Loch Hourn — one of Scotland's most dramatic sea lochs. Barrisdale Bay and the Knoydart approaches are nearby. Ladhar Bheinn (1,020m) is accessible via a long day.
When to visit
The coastal approach is weather-dependent. Best May–September. The south-facing aspect means good shelter from northerlies. Midges can be intense in calm summer weather.
