Our take
Shenavall has the single best view from any bothy in Scotland — you step outside and An Teallach fills the sky. The Fisherfield wilderness beyond is the most remote landscape in mainland Britain. The catch is the river crossing on the approach, which in spate is genuinely dangerous. Check weather, carry walking poles, and be prepared to turn back.
Getting there
From Corrie Hallie, follow the stalkers path over the bealach and down into Strath na Sealga. The final descent is steep and rough. The Abhainn Strath na Sealga must be crossed — there is no bridge, and in spate this crossing is dangerous. Some walkers approach via Gruinard River from the north, which avoids the river crossing.

Stalking season / estate access
Eilean Darach and surrounding estates run red deer stalking August–October. Check with the estate before visiting. The Fisherfield wilderness is divided between several private estates — all support respectful bothy use outside stalking periods.
What to expect inside
Large, well-built estate bothy with a main room, side rooms and an upstairs sleeping area. Two fireplaces. Stone walls and a solid roof. Owned by the Dundonnell estate and maintained by the MBA — respect the privilege. A shovel and brush are provided — leave it cleaner than you found it.

When to visit
The river crossing makes this bothy weather-dependent year-round. After prolonged rain, turning back is the correct decision. Deer stalking season (August–October) means consulting the estate before visiting. Winter requires full mountaineering equipment for An Teallach.
Wildfire risk — May to October
Dry conditions increase wildfire risk during summer. Never light fires in the open. Use the bothy fireplace only, and ensure it is fully out before you leave.
