Our take
Camban is a stepping stone on the Affric Kintail Way rather than a destination in itself. The setting is beautiful but the bothy is basic. If you are walking the full route, it breaks the longest day into manageable chunks. If you want a glen Affric bothy experience, Alltbeithe hostel offers more comfort for the same walk-in effort.
Getting there
From Morvich, follow the Affric Kintail Way east through Gleann Lichd and over the bealach into Glen Affric. The path is rough in places and the river crossing at Camban can be tricky in spate. From the east (Alltbeithe), it is a shorter 6km walk.

Stalking season / estate access
NTS Kintail Estate. Stag stalking August–October. Check with NTS ranger at Morvich visitor centre (01599 511231) before heading onto the hills in season.
What to expect inside
Small, basic bothy in fair condition. Fireplace and sleeping space for 4. Less well-appointed than Alltbeithe hostel but adequate for a night. The setting in Glen Affric compensates for the spartan interior.

When to visit
Best May–September. The walk in is long and the terrain remote — not a winter option for most walkers. Midges in July can be severe in the sheltered glen. The river crossing is the main access hazard.
Wildfire risk — May to October
Dry conditions increase wildfire risk during summer. Never light fires in the open. Use the bothy fireplace only, and ensure it is fully out before you leave.
