Mullach Buidhe

The name means 'yellow summit' in Gaelic. Only 161m tall but with enough prominence to stand alone on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. This is the beauty of Marilyns — height is not everything when you have a genuine summit.

Gaelic: “summit, top, yellow” · Pronunciation: mull-ach boo-yeh

Standard route

A short, accessible walk across machair grassland and rocky coastline to the 161m summit. The low altitude and gentle gradients make this achievable in 1-3 hours.

Terrain

Island terrain varying from machair grassland to rocky hillside. Sea salt exposure affects the vegetation. Wind is a constant companion.

In winter

Island winters are mild but stormy. Snow is rare at low levels. The main winter challenge is short daylight and frequent gales.
