A hotel, a station and a bridge. That is the village. It sits at the last point where the road, the railway and the Way are all together before the moor separates them, and it is where the 30km day becomes two civilised ones.
Not a stage end on the 7-day schedule. It is the standard stop for anyone splitting the 30km Rannoch Moor day in two, which is a large number of people.
What is actually in Bridge of Orchy
A hotel, a bunkhouse and camping. Very small supply against very high demand from anyone who has looked at the next stage and thought better of it.
How far ahead to book
Six months for high season. On a per-bed basis this may be the hardest booking on the West Highland Way — a handful of rooms serving everyone who wants to break the longest stage.
When it is full
Tyndrum is 11km back with far more beds and a station. Inveroran is a short distance on. Kingshouse is 19km further across the moor and is not an improvisation — it is the only building for that entire stretch.
Getting there, and getting out
On the West Highland Line with a station in the village, and on the A82. Rail access at the edge of the moor is the reason this stop is worth so much more than its size implies.
Camping
Outside the permit zones; ordinary access code camping applies, and the ground opens out here. The last easy pitch before the moor proper.
Food and resupply
Minimal — a hotel rather than a shop. Resupply at Tyndrum, not here.
