Sgurr na Stri

The name means 'sharp peak' in Gaelic. At 495m in the shadow of the Cuillin on Skye, this is the kind of hill that experienced walkers love — not famous, not crowded, but a proper summit with proper views.

Gaelic: “sharp, rocky peak” · Pronunciation: skoor

Standard route

A steady ascent with Atlantic exposure and views to neighbouring islands to the 495m summit. The walking is straightforward with clear views opening up as you gain height. Allow 2-4 hours.

Terrain

Low-level island terrain with good natural drainage. The maritime climate keeps the ground green year-round.

In winter

Maritime climate means mild winters with little snow but persistent wind and rain. A good option when mainland hills are in full winter conditions.
