Grange Fell

Grange Fell is a modest but well-defined 319m hill above Lockerbie in Dumfriesshire (NY 24403 81926), set in the rolling countryside between the Milk Water and Dryfe Water. A heather-clad top giving views over Annandale and toward the Lowther Hills.

Approach from minor roads west of Lockerbie near Boreland or Castlemilk, following field boundaries and forestry tracks to the open summit at 319m. About 4km return — allow 1-2 hours.

Terrain

Dumfriesshire farmland, conifer plantation edges and a heather top. Easy walking on tracks, with short pathless sections to reach the highest ground.

In winter

Among the gentlest of Marilyns in winter. Low elevation and southerly position mean snow is rare; the tracks are usable in most weather.
