A 367m Stewartry Marilyn at NX 63 north of Gatehouse of Fleet above Loch Whinyeon. Bengray is a quiet heather-and-granite hill on the eastern margins of the Galloway Forest. Reaches 367 m in the galloway.

From the minor road at Laghead, follow the track east past Loch Whinyeon before striking onto the open hill. The summit cairn lies at the western end of a short ridge — about 2 hours return.

Terrain

Estate tracks then heather and granite outcrops. Drainage is good and the going is firm in dry spells.

In winter

Sheltered Stewartry hill with little snow accumulation. Short crisp winter days are ideal for the long Solway views.
