Our take
Mugdock is not a trail centre in the Glentress sense — it's a country park with mountain bike trails. But for city-dwelling families or first-time riders it's the obvious place to start. Flat, flowing, forgiving, and there's a cafe for a hot chocolate when the rain starts.
Insider tips
Come on a weekday morning — weekends are busy with dog walkers and families. The West Highland Way passes through the park, so expect walkers.
Accommodation
Glasgow (20 min) or Milngavie (5 min) for accommodation — no need to stay locally.
Food
The country park cafe is decent and reasonably priced. Milngavie has plenty of options.
