Our take
Ben Aigan is the north-east's best-kept secret. The purpose-built singletrack is genuinely good — technical red-grade with natural rock features, steep descents and long flowing sections. It's a climb up to the trails but the views over the Spey Valley are worth the effort. Affected by forestry operations periodically, so check the FLS page before you travel.
Insider tips
Check the FLS site for forestry closures before travelling. Combine with a Speyside distillery tour — it is whisky country.
Accommodation
Fochabers, Elgin or Aviemore for accommodation.
Food
Nothing on site. Fochabers village has cafes and the excellent Giddy Moo Ice Cream.
