Our take

Wolftrax's red is the red that other trail centre reds get compared to. The rock work is world-class and the final descent — the so-called Risky Business — is one of the most photographed sections in UK MTB. Don't underestimate the black.

Insider tips

Go on a dry day if you can — the black trail is much harder wet. Base Camp cafe does a solid post-ride breakfast.

Accommodation

Newtonmore (10 min) has plenty. Laggan village has a handful of B&Bs.

Food

Base Camp cafe on-site is the best food at any Scottish trail centre.

Two Cairngorms centres a 90-minute drive apart. Laggan for technical rock work, Glenlivet for the long flowing red. Stay in Aviemore or Grantown-on-Spey between days.
