John Muir Way · Overnight stop
Accommodation in South Queensferry
The end of the sixth day, directly under the three Forth bridges, at the western edge of Edinburgh.
End of day six · Stage stop
A narrow stone-built high street along the waterfront beneath the Forth Bridge, with the Hawes Inn — the inn Stevenson used in Kidnapped — by the bridge. It is part of Edinburgh in all but name, and fills with day visitors.
The sixth night on the standard schedule.
What is actually in South Queensferry
Hotels and B&Bs, some with views of the bridges.
How far ahead to book
A month or more for summer weekends: a small town on Edinburgh's doorstep, under one of Scotland's best-known views.
When it is full
Edinburgh, 18 minutes by train from Dalmeny or about 40 minutes on the Lothian 43 bus. Staying in the city and coming back out costs a morning, not the walk.
Getting there, and getting out
Dalmeny station is a 15-minute walk uphill from the waterfront, 18 minutes from Edinburgh Waverley. Lothian bus 43 runs to Edinburgh.
Camping
No. Town and estate; the next day runs through Dalmeny Estate into the city.
Food and resupply
Small supermarkets (Tesco Express, Co-op), pubs and cafés along the high street.
