A small village around Telford's old bridge over the River Moriston, tucked between two much bigger walking days. Its position is the whole story: a 12km stage in, then 34km out to Drumnadrochit, so almost everyone stops here whether the village suits them or not.
The third night on the 6-day schedule, at the end of the route's shortest stage and immediately before its longest.
What is actually in Invermoriston
The Glenmoriston Arms and B&Bs. A very small supply against a stage structure that funnels the entire route into it.
How far ahead to book
Four to six months in high season. On a beds-to-walkers basis this is the tightest booking on the Great Glen Way, and it is tight for a structural reason rather than a popular one.
When it is full
Fort Augustus is 12km back and has the deepest supply on the route. Forwards, the Loch Ness SYHA at Alltsigh sits partway to Drumnadrochit and is the one thing that makes the 34km stage divisible.
Getting there, and getting out
On the A82 bus route between Fort William and Inverness. No station. Usable as a bail-out, though the service is thinner than at Fort Augustus.
Camping
Access code camping applies. The forestry above the village gives more options than the loch shore, which is steep and wooded for most of its length.
Food and resupply
Limited — a shop and the hotel. Tomorrow is 34km, so carry food out of here or plan around the hostel at Alltsigh.
