The centre of Loch Ness monster tourism, with Urquhart Castle a couple of miles down the shore, which means it has far more visitor accommodation than a village this size would otherwise carry — and far more competition for it. Walkers arrive here tired from the longest stage on the route.

What is actually in Drumnadrochit
Full facilities: hotels, B&Bs, hostels and campsites. Genuinely well supplied.
How far ahead to book
Three months in high season. The supply is good, but you are booking against Loch Ness day-trippers rather than against other walkers, and they book earlier.
When it is full
Inverness is 32km on — a long final day but a well-served one, and the buses run frequently enough that staying in the city and returning is realistic. The Loch Ness SYHA at Alltsigh is back down the loch.
Getting there, and getting out
On the A82 bus route with a frequent service to Inverness. No railway, but the bus link to a rail hub is good enough that this is an easy place to leave the route.
Camping
Access code camping applies, with campsites in and around the village. The glen above is open ground and gives real options.
Food and resupply
Shops, cafés and pubs. A proper resupply before the final stage.
