Our take
Kernsary is Fisherfield for beginners — close enough to Poolewe for a comfortable introduction to bothy life, far enough to feel like an adventure. Walk in Friday evening, push deeper into Fisherfield on Saturday.
Getting there
From Poolewe, follow the track southeast past Kernsary farm. Good path. Allow 1 hour.
Nearest parking: Poolewe village
What to expect inside
Small MBA bothy in good condition with a fireplace and space for 4. The short walk-in makes this a comfortable first night before heading deeper into Fisherfield.
Nearby hills & attractions
Inverewe Garden (NTS) is in Poolewe — one of Scotland's finest gardens. The Fisherfield wilderness stretches east. Loch Maree is nearby.
When to visit
Accessible year-round due to the short approach. Poolewe has a shop and hotel for resupply. An excellent staging post for longer trips.
