Bothy

Allt Scheicheachan

A bothy in Glen Tilt south of Blair Atholl. Shorter than the walk to Tarf Hotel and useful as a first-night stop on the Minigaig pass route. A handy first-night stop in Glen Tilt for those starting late, or a quieter alternative to the better-known Tarf Hotel.

Our take

Allt Scheicheachan is the warm-up for the Tarf Hotel — half the walk-in, same beautiful glen. If you are short on time or energy, stop here and bag Beinn a' Ghlo the next day. It's a plain box of a place, but the position under Beinn a' Ghlo's long ridges earns it a night.

Getting there

From Old Bridge of Tilt, follow the track north through Glen Tilt. Allow 1.5 hours on excellent estate tracks. The Glen Tilt track is one of the finest estate paths in Scotland; mountain bikes ride it easily and the gradient is gentle throughout.
