Our take

The West Island Way is the perfect first island walk — Bute is 35 minutes by ferry from Wemyss Bay (train from Glasgow), the terrain is gentle, and Rothesay has proper shops, pubs and a Victorian lido that alone justifies the trip. The southern beaches are beautiful. Mount Stuart House and gardens are magnificent. Three days of easy walking with a ferry adventure feel.
