A harbour town with a ruined castle above the old harbour, red sandstone, fishing boats and some of the best surfing in Scotland. John Muir was born here in 1838 and his birthplace on the high street is now a museum and one of the passport stamping stations — the right place to finish.
Where the walk ends. Stay a night if you are celebrating; leave by train if you are not.

Edinburgh is 25 minutes by train. Finishing and going home the same evening is easy.
Getting there, and getting out
Dunbar station is ten minutes' walk from the harbour and about 25 minutes from Edinburgh Waverley; LNER trains from London stop here too.
Camping
There is formal camping in the town. Wild camping on the beaches either side is access code country, but John Muir Country Park to the west is a managed park, not a campsite.
