The overall picture

Bothies, wild camps, occasional bunkhouses. Shenavall, Strabeg, Strathchailleach and Kearvaig are the famous overnight bothies along the route. Postal-drop options work to the Old Forge in Inverie and to Ullapool; coordinate with operators who handle backpacker drops. Bunkhouses at Strathcarron, Ullapool and Kinlochbervie are the main indoor stops.

Cape Wrath Trail accommodation — common questions

How many overnight stops does the Cape Wrath Trail take?
The standard itinerary runs 11 walking days, which means 10 nights on the trail between Fort William and Cape Wrath — plus a night at either end if you're travelling far to the start or home the morning after finishing.
Should I pre-book my overnight stops on the Cape Wrath Trail?
In the peak months (May, June, September) — yes, book ahead; the overnight stops are small places with limited beds and they fill weeks out. Off-season you have more slack, but phone ahead anyway: some accommodation closes entirely outside the walking season.
Can I get my bags transferred between stops on the Cape Wrath Trail?
Yes — Sherpa Van Project and AMS Bag Transfer Scotland move bags between overnight stops on the Cape Wrath Trail (from around £10 per bag per day), so you can walk with a day pack. Book transfer once your accommodation is fixed — operators need the exact overnight addresses.
