Marilyn · Borders

Dirrington Great Law

The name means 'hill' in Gaelic. Only 399m tall but with enough prominence to stand alone near the Firth of Forth in the Scottish Borders. This is the beauty of Marilyns — height is not everything when you have a genuine summit.

Standard route

A short, accessible walk via drovers roads and old rights of way in the Cheviot foothills to the 399m summit. The low altitude and gentle gradients make this achievable in 1-3 hours.

Terrain

Rolling farmland and open moorland. The Borders hills are the most walkable in Scotland — gentle gradients and firm ground.

In winter

Winter walking in the Borders is straightforward. Occasional snow and frost but the gentle terrain and good paths make these hills excellent winter options.
