Our take
Iron Lodge is the gateway to the Falls of Glomach and the most remote Munros in Kintail. The glen is beautiful, the track is excellent, and the lodge is comfortable. Cycle in, visit the falls, sleep at the lodge, bag a Munro the next day.
Getting there
From Killilan, follow the estate track east along Glen Elchaig. Excellent track throughout. Allow 1.5 hours. Mountain bike cuts this to 45 minutes.
Nearest parking: Killilan on the minor road from Dornie
What to expect inside
Large estate lodge with multiple rooms, fireplace and space for 6+. One of the more comfortable bothies in the northwest. Well-maintained by the estate.
Nearby hills & attractions
Falls of Glomach (113m) — one of the highest waterfalls in Britain — is accessible via a steep path to the north. The remote Munros of Lurg Mhor and Bidein a' Choire Sheasgaich lie to the west.
When to visit
The good track makes this accessible year-round. The Falls of Glomach are most impressive after heavy rain. Deer stalking season — check with the Killilan estate.
