Our take
Glendessarry is the sensible first night on the way to Sourlies. Walk in after work on a Friday, sleep here, then push west the next morning. It breaks a very long day into two manageable ones.
Getting there
From Strathan, follow the track west through Glen Dessarry. Good landrover track throughout. Allow 1.5 hours.
Nearest parking: Strathan at the head of Loch Arkaig
What to expect inside
Well-maintained MBA bothy with two rooms, fireplace and sleeping space for 6. The setting in the glen is pleasant. A natural first-night stop on the way west.
Nearby hills & attractions
Sgurr na Ciche (1,040m) is accessible via a long day. Sourlies bothy on Loch Nevis is a day's walk southwest. Loch Arkaig stretches east.
When to visit
The good track makes this accessible year-round. A useful winter staging post for longer routes when daylight is limited.
