Welcome to OutdoorSCOT
What OutdoorSCOT is, what it isn't, and what you can expect from us over the next year.
OutdoorSCOT is a new site covering the Scottish outdoors. We launched it because we kept hitting the same wall as everyone else: there is excellent niche coverage of certain corners of the Scottish outdoor scene (WalkHighlands for Munros being the obvious one), and there is a lot of tourism-board fluff dressed up as practical advice — but the middle ground barely exists.
What we cover
Six pillars, in priority order:
- Mountain biking — the biggest gap in Scottish outdoor media. Scotland has the best MTB trail network in the UK and arguably one of the best in Europe, and there is no WalkHighlands equivalent for it. We are fixing that.
- Hillwalking on Corbetts, Grahams and Donalds — the underserved hill lists.
- Wild camping — the Scottish Outdoor Access Code in plain English, regional spots, midge survival, winter camping.
- Sea kayaking — the west coast, Skye, the Outer Hebrides and beginner-friendly bays.
- Gear — honest reviews and kit lists for Scottish conditions.
- Tools — interactive trackers, calculators and finders that actually help you plan.
What we don't do
We don't compete with WalkHighlands on Munro route cards. They have eighteen years of authority and we cannot beat them at their own game. Our Munro coverage is beginner-focused: “your first Munro from Glasgow”, “your first Munro from Edinburgh”, and so on.
We don't do tourism-board language. No “stunning”, no “hidden gem”, no “breathtaking”. Words that have been worn smooth by overuse have stopped meaning anything.
We don't accept payment for positive reviews. We do use affiliate links, and we are upfront about it. Read the affiliate disclosure for the detail.
Roadmap
Right now (April 2026) the site is freshly launched. Over the next several months you can expect:
- Comprehensive trail centre coverage for every major Scottish MTB destination
- Programmatic pages for all 222 Corbetts, 231 Grahams and 89 Donalds
- An interactive hill-bagging tracker
- A midge risk calculator
- A gear checklist generator
- Long-form route guides for the Scottish Great Trails
- Sea kayaking route guides for the west coast
If there's something you'd like to see covered, drop us a line. We read everything.
Welcome aboard.
